Established in 1928, AIA San Diego aims to connect architects in the area through advocacy, networking, civic leadership, and sustainable planning. Alongside the mission, the chapter holds various awarding ceremonies to recognize excellence in architecture.
The AIA San Diego Design Awards remains one of the significant awarding highlights in the association’s calendar. The event, held annually, rewards design excellence and distinction in architecture, with over 250 architects attending to showcase, compete, and network. The ceremony receives an average of 100 submissions in 10 different categories, with a significant judging focus on sustainability. To promote review and award fairness, a non-local jury, also architects, judges the submissions.
